Welcome to the 2023 Hurricane Preparation and Survival Guide we created this guide and website to help the families in our community prepare themselves for the upcoming hurricane season.

In this website you will learn everything you need to know about hurricanes season and how to plan early  for you and your families safety during and after the storm. You will also learn how to secure and protect your property from high wind and flood damage.

– Your homeowners insurance may not cover everything it is smart to check the policy before the threat of a hurricane to be sure that your insurance covers everything. If not you can call your insurance company to find out the best coverage for your needs.

Muti-family Dwelling Insurance

– Insurance policies for apartments, condos, townhouses or duplexes may be a bit different than the insurance coverage in a single family home. If your property is run by a homeowners association they may have coverage for parts of the building that may limit your claims for your property inside on your home. Every place if different and it is important to consult a licensed insurance agent to find out what is covered in your policy.

During the Storm

Staying Safe During a Hurricane

During a hurricane it is scary especially when you start to hear the wind bang against the windows.  In order to lower your risk of getting hit by flying debis hitting the windows it is recommended that you stay in a center room of the house. Make sure that you have all of your devices charged and all of your battery operated devices available just in case.

You May Lose Power or Water

Depending on the strength of the storm you may lost power, water or both so be prepared just in case it happens. You can use a generator for electricity but make sure that you are able to operate it safely. Many people have rituals during a hurricane in order to keep their mind off of the storm. Some people play cards, board games or even have a party if it is something that will ease your anxiety until the worst of the storm is over. It’s better than just sitting there biting your fingernails waiting on pending danger. Hurricanes cane last for hours. Being prepared is the key!

After the Storm

Accessing the Damage

After the storm it is recommended that you listen to your local news before you go outside. There may be reports of downed power lines or flooding in areas so it is important to heed their warnings. Once you have determined that it is safe to go outside you can inspect your home for damage as well as the other houses in the neighborhood. Sometimes there is little damage and other times entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble. This is why it is so important to be prepared just incase we have a catastrophic storm. The way the the weather is acting now a days it’s not a matter is if, but a matter of when.
